JTB – Honolulu Festival

The Challenge

A Hawaii cultural treasure, the Honolulu Festival connects Oahu residents with performers and visitors from the Pacific Rim, and especially Japan, each March for a celebration packed with performances and exhibits.

Anthology was charged with generating extensive print, broadcast and online exposure to build anticipation and increase attendance. Our plan of action called for an escalating five-month schedule of media outreach and publicity, culminating on the weekend of the festival.

The Solution

Our publicity efforts generated 61 broadcast stories, 8 print clips and 296 online articles, resulting in millions of impressions in Hawaii and abroad. Thousands of visitors arrived in Hawaii to participate in the festival. Most were from Japan, but participants also hailed from China, Taiwan, Korea, Australia, the Philippines, Canada and Alaska. In all, more than 120,500 attended, marking a 3 percent increase over the previous year.
