Legislative Advocacy – Earned Income Tax Credit

Hawaii Appleseed Center for Law and Economic Justice

The Challenge

Residents know that Hawaii consistently ranks among states with the highest costs of living in the U.S. In order to quantify the extent of the economic hardships Hawaii residents experience on a daily basis, Anthology’s Research Group conducted a survey on behalf of the Hawaii Appleseed Center for Law and Economic Justice, a nonprofit organization working to build a more socially just Hawaii.

The survey’s resulting Study of the Financial Struggles Facing Working Families in Hawaii was released to the media, earning a front-page feature in the state’s largest daily newspaper, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. The survey revealed that half of Hawaii’s families live paycheck-to-paycheck and a large majority support tax credits to help them make ends meet.
